MESA

Finding sperm in a severely infertile male was formerly like searching for gold. Now, a male fertility specialist can find sperm by means of a simple outpatient procedure. If infertility is the result of a blocked or damaged epididymis, the duct carrying sperm from the testicle to the penis, sperm is extracted from the epididymis by a technique is known as MESA (microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration). Sperm thus extracted may then be used with IVF or ICSI.
